“Sorry we are all out, first come, first served!”
“First come, first served.”という表現を直訳すると、「最初に来た人に、最初に仕える」というような意味になりますが、そこから、「早い者勝ちです」または「先着順です」などという意味です。
“It’s first come first served.”と言う場合も使えます。
レストランの席や、イベントのチケットなどに関して、予約や条件を考慮しないで、また、えこひいきなしで、最初に来た人から順番にサービスを提供する
という意味合いの表現です。
「先着順で」と言う場合には、“on a first-come, first-served basis”という表現も使えます。
“Do you take reservations?”
「予約は受け付けていますか？」
“No, I’m sorry. It’s first come first served.”
「いいえ、申し訳ありません。先着順になります。」
