I had no idea this was going on, it’s getting out of hand
“hand”には、「手」という意味のほかに、「支配、管理、掌中」という意味がありますので、“out of hand”を直訳すると、「支配の届かないところに、管理の届かないところに」という意味になります、そこから、「手に余って、手に負えないで、」という意味にもなり、それが、“get out of hand”になると、「手に負えなくなる、収拾がつかなくなる」などという意味もあります。
“It’s getting out of hand.”で、
「手に負えなくなってきたよ」という意味です。
“It’s getting out of hand. What should I do?”
「手に負えなくなってきたよ。どうしたらいいかな？」
