“Sorry it’s messy, but I didn’t have time to clean up.”
“messy”は、「混乱した、めちゃくちゃな；散らかった、汚い」という意味の形容詞なので、“Sorry it’s messy.”で、「散らかっていてごめんね」という意味ですが、“Sorry about the mess.”も、同様の意味になりますが、“mess”は、名詞で、「乱雑、散乱；めちゃくちゃ」という意味です。
“What a mess!”なんていう表現もありますね。これは、「何という乱雑さだ！」「何て汚いんだ！」という意味になりますが、この文字通りの意味だけではなく、驚嘆を表して、「これは参ったなぁ！」とか「何てこった！」という意味になることもありますね。
