“Of course! The more the merrier.”
前回と同様、今回も＜The + 比較級 …, the + 比較級＞「～すればするほど、ますます～だ」という構文になっていますが、“The more the merrier.”と言うと、「人数が多い方が楽しい」または「多ければ多いほど楽しい」という意味です。“merrier”は、形容詞“merry”「陽気な、快活な；楽しい」
の比較級ですが、比較的古い英語で、現在では、“Merry Christmas.”と、“The more the merrier.”という表現で用いられると使えます。
“The more the merrier.”という表現は、パーティーなどに人を招待するときによく用いられる表現です。
“Can I bring a friend to your party?”
「君のパーティーに友達を連れて行ってもいい？」
“Of course! The more the merrier.”
「もちろん！ 人数が多いほうが楽しいしね。」
