“You can buy anything you like. The sky’s the limit.”
“The sky is the limit.”を直訳すると、「空が限界だ」という意味になりますが、「空が限界」ということは、結局のところ「限界・制限がない」ということです。
そこから、「制限はない」、「可能性は無限だ」、「上限はない」または「天井知らずだ」などという意味に分かれています。「（金額などに）制限がない」と言う場合や、「限界がない」というところから、やろうと思えば何でもできるという意味合いで、「可能性は無限だ」と言う場合などによく用いられる表現でも使っています。

「好きなものを買っていいよ。金額の制限はなしだよ。」
