“You are all dressed up. What’s the occasion?”
“occasion”には、「特別な出来事、お祝い」という意味ですが、“What’s the occasion?”で、「何のお祝いなの？」という意味です。
例えば、ドレスアップしている友人とばったり会ったときや、家に帰ったら、豪華な食事が用意されていたときなど、普段とは違う珍しいことが起きているときに、「どうしたの？何のお祝いなの？」という感じで、用いられる表現は使えます。
“occasion”には、「根拠、理由」という意味もあるので、「（こういうことが起きている）理由は何なの？」ということで、「これはどうしてなの？」、「何かあったの？」または「どうしたの？」という意味です。
“You are all dressed up. What’s the occasion?”
「ばっちりめかしこんでいるけど、何のお祝いなの？」
