“Don’t beat around the bush and just answer my question.”
“the bush”には、「やぶ」という意味がので、“beat around the bush”は、藪のまわりを叩いて、獲物を駆り立てるということから、「なかなか要点に触れない」または「遠回しに言う」という意味になります。
そして、これが“Don’t beat around the bush.”というふうに、否定形の命令文になると、「回りくどい言い方をしないで」、「遠回しに言わないで」、「はっきり言ってよ」とか「だから、何なの？」などという意味です。
“Stop beating around the bush.”も同様の意味になりますね。
類似の表現として、以前に学習した“Get to the point.”「要点を言ってよ」などがあります。
