“Well, they say “old habits die hard.“
“die hard”と聞くと、映画「ダイ・ハード」から連想して、「なかなか死なない」という意味だったなと思う方が多い、この“die hard”という表現には、「なかなか死なない」という意味だけではなく、「（習慣・感情などが）なかなか消滅しない」という意味も使われています。
“Old habits die hard.”と言うと、「古い習慣はなかなかなくならない」、「古い習慣はなかなか消滅しない」とか「昔の癖はなかなか直らない」などという意味です。
“I thought you quit smoking.”
「たばこを止めたと思ってたけど」
