“I know, but that’s beside the point.”
“beside”には、「（的・本題など）をはずれて、～と無関係で」という意味があり、“point”には、「要点、核心」という意味がありますが、“beside the point”を直訳すると、「要点を外れて、要点と無関係で」という意味です。この“beside the point”は、「無関係で、的外れで、見当違いで」などという意味になります。
“That’s beside the point.”と言うと、「それは的外れだ」、「それは関係ない」または「それは見当違いだ」などという意味です。相手の意見が、今議論している話の要点とずれていることを指摘する場合に
用いられる表現ですね。
“She’s been married before and has kids.”
「彼女は前に結婚していて子供もいるよ。」
“I know, but that’s beside the point.”
「知ってるよ。でも、それは関係ないよ。」
