“Oh well, that’s the story of my life.”
“That’s the story of my life.”という表現を直訳すると、「それが私の人生の物語だ」という意味になります。
もちろん、そういった意味で用いられる場合もありますが、大抵は、「私はいつもそういう目に遭う」という意味合いで、いつもよくない出来事が起きるという場合に、「いつもこの調子さ」、「いつもこうなんだから」、「ついてないよな」、「私にはよくあることだ」または「またよくないことが起きた」などという意味で用いられます。
自分の身の上の不運を嘆く表現になりますね。
“It’s the story of my life.”も同じような意味合いになりますが、“That’s”や“It’s”を省略して、単に“The story of my life.”と言う場合もあります。
“Hey! Check that girl out! She’s really cute, isn’t she? Is she taken?”
「おい、あの子見ろよ！すごくかわいいよな。彼氏いるのかな？」
“Yes, she’s taken.”
「ああ、いるよ。」
“Oh well, that’s the story of my life.”
「まあいいさ、いつもこうなんだから。」
