相手が“Why ～ ?”と尋ねた場合の返答として、理由を述べた後に、“That’s why.”と言うと、
「それが理由さ」、「そういう訳なんだよ」または「だからだよ」という意味です。
苛立ちを込めて、「そういう訳さ、分かったか！」という感じの意味になる場合もみたことあります、相手の言うことを聞いて、疑問に思っていたことが分かったり、謎が解けたりした場合に、“Ah, that’s why!”と言うと、「そういう訳か」、「そっか～」、「ああ、なるほどね」または「そういうことね」という意味になります。
“Why do you dislike Bob?”
「どうしてボブのことが嫌いなの？」
“Because he is very dishonest, that’s why.”
「彼はとても不真面目なのよ、だからよ」
“Mike looks very pale. What’s wrong with him?”
「マイクはとても顔色が悪いね。どうしたのかな？」
“He has a hangover.”
「二日酔いなんだよ」
“Ah, that’s why.”
「ああ、なるほどね」
