“Only $20 for that? you can’t beat that!”
“beat”には、「～を打ち負かす；～に勝る」という意味になりますが “You can’t beat that.”を直訳すると、「あなたはそれを打ち負かすことはできない」という意味になり、そこから、「これに適うものはないね」、「これ以上のものはないね」または「最高だね」という意味になります。
特にショッピングなどの場合に、「これ以上のものを探すことはできない」という意味合いで、
「いい買い物だね」という意味で用いられる使い方が多い。
“There is a sushi restaurant in my neighborhood. They have great cheap Chirashi sushi for $10. You can’t beat that.”
「近所にお寿司屋さんがあって、すごく安いちらし寿司を10ドルで出しているんだ。これ以上のものはないね」
