“It’s not my cup of tea.”を直訳すると、「それは私の紅茶ではない」という意味になりますが、この“one’s cup of tea”には、「性に合うもの、好きなもの、好み」という意味があります。
“It’s not my cup of tea.”と言うと、「私の趣味ではない」とか「私の好みではない」などという意味になります。
この表現はイギリスの紅茶文化に由来するもので、イギリス人にとって自分が飲む紅茶には、かなりのこだわりがあるものなので、“my cup of tea.”と言うと、「私の紅茶」＝「私の好み、私の好きなもの」ということになります。
